The Melbourne Victory Football Club is making a welcome return to the Albury-Wodonga region with the announcement of a further Pre Academy Centre to be held on Thursday 9 – Friday 10 July, 2020.
Following the successful co-hosting of three Pre Academy Centres throughout 2019, the Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League clubs Academy will be returning for a 2-day event with the aim of providing additional quality training as well as an identification opportunity for players across the region.
Underlining the commitment to Regional visits from the club, General Manager – Technical and Academy, Drew Sherman believes there is a huge benefit to continuing the 300km journey to the border.
“We believe it is of utmost importance to have oversight on players from across the region and beyond, certainly given the level of players we are seeing on many of our visits outside of metropolitan Melbourne. Murray United have shown an excellent commitment to youth development and we have now established a really positive relationship with Technical Director Adam Carty, Club Chairman Darren Yates and a number of the players in the region.
We have since invited a number of players directly into the Academy programme here in Melbourne following the hosting of the Pre Academy Centre and have no doubt that this element of the pathway will continue for players should we feel they are ready to do so.”
Adam Carty, Technical Director of Murray United, was delighted to see the Melbourne Victory Football Club Pre Academy Centre return to Wodonga.
“The value of the relationship we continue to grow with Melbourne Victory is again bearing fruit. With the announcement of the 2020 Pre Academy Centre being held in Wodonga, this again presents our region with another excellent opportunity to showcase our young talent while at the same time present aspiring young players with access to some of the best youth coaches in the country.”
The 2020 edition of the programme caters for boys and girls born between 2006 – 2011 and will be coached by staff from the clubs ever growing Academy including Academy Head Coach Danny Graystone and U13 Boys Head Coach Jake Moyle.
The MVFC Pre Academy Centres are one of a multitude of entry points in to the MVFC Academy, with a large proportion of Pre Academy Centre players making their way through to representation of the club at JNPL level and beyond in 2020.
