MVFC Pre Academy Back in Action!

With many sporting codes and football clubs returning to action across the region, Melbourne Victory Football Club is delighted to be welcoming back many players into our Pre Academy Centres across metropolitan Melbourne.

Phase 2 of the 2020 programme is soon to begin, with Selection Days taking place on July 6 & July 7, as players aim to continue their training alongside coaching staff from the MVFC Academy from July – December.

Pre Academy Coordinator Steven Dillon, is excited to get back in to action with the players currently in the programme, as well as welcoming a new intake of players to the club.

“This point in the year indicates a new window for players to gain entry into the Pre Academy. We have a number of really committed players from Phase 1 and we look forward to having a number of new players join us, who have all been endorsed by their local club. Our intention is to both recruit and subsequently retain as many players with high potential as possible, providing them with an aspirational and age appropriate learning environment.

We have been in contact regularly with all clubs across Victoria in recent months, seeking to understand their challenges in youth development, and providing a number of free training and education opportunities that provide genuine insight into the Pre Academy. These opportunities have been running concurrently with our Parent, Player and Coach Development programmes as part of Pre Academy Online.

We know established and mutual bonds between our club, NPL and Community Clubs are going to be crucial in helping players navigate through their playing journey as a young footballer and we believe we have a responsibility to help nourish these connections.”

The MVFC Pre Academy Centres are a cornerstone of junior player development here at the club for young footballers aged 9-14 and we are committed to ensuring that we not only identify but help to nurture and monitor the future generations of MVFC footballers.

The centres currently run in Point Cook, Hillside, Keysborough and Epping, with additional centres in Albury-Wodonga, Riverside in Tasmania and Auckland, New Zealand. These are designed to be an additional supplementary training and identification opportunity and aim to compliment the playing and training environment on offer by local clubs across the region.
